A little off topic from many of my posts so far, but I just wanted to share some FALL BABY SHOWER INSPO after I threw a baby shower for my sister-in-law!
We had so much fun planning the whole party together, inviting all the ladies from our local church, and hosting it in our very own church fellowship hall! Since we invited a LOT of ladies, and as stay-at-home moms, we wanted to throw a tasteful shower that was also budget-friendly (which our husbands thanked us for later hahaha)
I got lots of ideas off Pinterest, of course, but for all the different aspects that we included together, the shower came together far and away above what I ever expected!
So, here are some ideas for your next fall baby shower on a budget:
1. Décor
My sister-in-law chose bunnies and daisies to celebrate the upcoming arrival of her baby girl! So we went with a nice, pastel color palette of pinks, yellows, and beiges which complemented our laid back “fall picnic” feel. We chose calico table cloths, daisy-shaped plates, and cute napkins from Amazon, then we thrifted lots of baskets to scatter throughout our tables as well as on stage!
For the Mama’s little “spotlight” moments like opening gifts, participating in games, or sitting for the devotion, I bought a balloon arch from Amazon, and used a wooden arch that I borrowed for a friend as well as a rocking chair from church to create a comfy, home-y look!
Then, our guests sat at tables decorated with the pink gingham table cloths, brown place mats, daisy plates, pink napkins, and of course, a centerpiece with a bouquet of fresh daisies as well as some cute wooden bunnies that I also found from Amazon.
By watching for Amazon sales, getting serving platters from Dollar Tree, and borrowing big items like tables, chairs, and the archway, decor came in at $120 TOTAL!
2. Food
We chose to serve light refreshments since it was an evening shower, and because it is fall after all, we decided to go with apple cider and coffee as our beverages.
Budget Hack: Instead of buying expensive apple cider from a grocery store, instead, pick your favorite brand of apple juice, pour it into a pot on the stove, add some cinnamon sticks, and simmer for 4-8 hours. It produces a yummy, comforting cider that tastes just as good as any of the pre-made jugs at a store, and it is MUCH cheaper! Not to mention, your whole kitchen will smell like fall!
We then decided to offer a variety of options for picnic-like snacks for our guests, especially considering everyone’s different dietary restrictions and preferences. So, we did a platter of fresh-cut vegetables and dip, mini donuts and donut holes for our sweet tooths, apples and caramel dip (gotta love that fall feeling!), and finally little popcorn bags that doubled as party favors!
Being the over-planner that I am, I, of course, bought way too much food, but I will say, the apples and caramel dip were GONE by the end of the shower – so, if you’re looking for a crowd pleaser at any fall event – that is it! Just slice up your apples and put a dollop of caramel dip in individual condiment cups to make for an easy grab-and-go. Voila! A favorite fall treat!
Since I shopped at Costco for bulk items like juice, popcorn, apples, and veggies, then picked up pre-made desserts from Walmart, my food cost was just $100 to serve 70 guests!
3. Shower Devotion
As at most of our church baby showers, we wanted to make sure we had a devotion with some sage advice for Mama as she enters this new stage of life. My sister-in-law asked a close family friend/relative to give a little devotion based off of her experience as a mom of four, and she did a wonderful job, pulling out Biblical principles on motherhood through an acronym: LOVE.
L- Love. LOVE your children the way Christ intended, and LEARN from the experience of those around you.
O – Others. Mothers automatically are thrust into a position of serving others (their babies, family, and household), and this behavior can be modeled so that your children can grow up learning how to give back and serve others, too!
V – Value. Value your time with your children — each little moment and milestone– because it is gone in a flash!
E – Educate. Educate them on loving God and loving family. From the time that they are born, sing them songs, quote scripture, and pray for your children as a mother is a child’s first influence on their worldview.
4. Activities
After the devotion, we had some activities, because what is a baby shower without a couple of fun games and crafts?!
Our first activity was a little baby trivia game that I pulled from the internet. I got most of my information from this website; however, this is after I came up with some questions that I was personally curious about.
And, let me tell ya, I have been to a few showers where they play Baby Bingo, Who Knows Mommy Best? Try to Guess Mommy’s belly width etc., and those are cute and fun, but in a room full of ladies and mothers, the guessing and controversy over these questions was HILARIOUS – everyone joined in, laughing and groaning and having a great time!
Feel free to download a free printable version of this game here: Baby Shower Trivia.
Our second activity was another unique one to our baby shower – we chose to help make my sister-in-law a scrapbook! A few trips to Hobby Lobby and local thrift stores, and we had a very budget-friendly collection of stickers, yarn, paper, scraps, ribbon, and art utensils for 60 ladies to each build their own, unique scrapbook page for $60 TOTAL!
Once everyone was finished with their design, we gathered them all into one scrapbook for my sister-in-law and future niece to cherish together as they add their own photos and touches down the road!
Overall, it was a really sweet time getting to celebrate motherhood and a new little life! I hope this has been just a fun post to browse and read and maybe gain some inspiration from the pictures and ideas! I know I had a lot of fun planning and putting the party together!
Budget Total: After getting a couple more odds and ends to complete the party, my total was $300 for food, beverages, decor, and activity supplies to serve a total of 70 guests. I found that thrifting baskets and art supplies, borrowing furniture, planning ahead, keeping an eye out for sales, and inviting your friends to help prep saves time, headache, and money!
